SUPER BOWL 57! | Running Up The Score (2/11/23)

  • In the history of the National Football League, just six quarterbacks who led the NFL in passing yards have also played in the Super Bowl. That list showcases some of the greatest field generals ever, including Dan Marino (Super Bowl XIX), Kurt Warner (Super Bowl XXXVI), and Rich Gannon (Super Bowl XXXVII). Tom Brady (Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl LII) and Peyton Manning (Super Bowl XLVIII). 0-6
  • Wagerers should also know that in five of those six Super Bowls, the quarterback who led the league in passing yards was also on the favored team. Again, all of them lost on the field (obviously, their teams didn't cover). The one game where the quarterback's team was an underdog, the Miami Dolphins (+3), were smoked by the San Francisco 49ers, 38-16. So, none of the six beat the spread.
  • Since 2000, NFL MVPs who have appeared in the Super Bowl have been winless (0-8). Who's the favorite to win the MVP award this season? Again, it's Mahomes. Much like the teams which fielded the NFL's passing yardage leader, none of the teams with an NFL MVP beat the spread in any of those eight Super Bowl contests.
    That list includes Warner (Super Bowl XXXVI), Gannon (Super Bowl XXXVII), Shaun Alexander (Super Bowl XL), Brady (Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl LII), Manning (Super Bowl XLIV and Super Bowl XLVIII), Cam Newton (Super Bowl 50) and Matt Ryan (Super Bowl LI). Yes, folks, Ryan won the MVP award in 2016.
  • It should be noted, however, that 10 players have won both the MVP award and the Super Bowl in the same season, but it has yet to happen since Warner did it in 1999. Coincidentally, the team that had the league MVP and also went to the Super Bowl from 1966-1999 had a perfect 10-0 record in the big game. Those teams also went 8-0-2 against the spread, so the trend favored teams with MVP winners
  • Some other trends might favor the Chiefs, including 18 of the last 21 teams wearing white uniforms winning the Super Bowl, but Mahomes does have a pair of pretty interesting and recent trends going against him in this huge matchup.
  • Bettors in the US are expected to legally wager nearly $1.175 billion on the Eagles and the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57, which would mark the first billion-dollar game the country has ever seen. Last year’s matchup between the Rams and Bengals drew an estimated $957 million in total wagers.

  • States Like New york banned betting on player individual awards (MVP) 
    • As per the rules and regulations governing NY online sports betting, bets can’t be placed on any award (NBA MVP, MLB Cy Young, Heisman Trophy, etc) that requires a vote to determine the winner.
    • So when Super Bowl betting makes its way to New York in a few weeks, don’t expect to see a prop bet on which player will win the game’s MVP.
    • It is, essentially, an integrity issue — that voters could conceivably collude to determine the winner
  • According to Fox, which is hosting the game this year, 30-second spots sold for between $6 million-$7 million.
• Chiefs vs Eagles Preview
  • The key for the Chiefs is to protect Patrick Mahomes
  • Mahomes said he’s feeling even better than he did heading into game vs CIN
  • Chiefs need to make jalen hurts beat them with his arm; hasn’t had to yet
  • outside of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Jalen Hurts*, and AJ Brown the guys that need to have a big game for their teams to win are Chris Jones and Isaiah Pacheco and Hassan Reddick and the Offensive Line of Eagles

NFL Championship Weekend Recap! | Running Up The Score (2/5/23)

  • not mad at refs over the devonta smith catch, mad at shanahan
  • Jalen hurts did not play well
  • 49ers defense was on the field for 37 minutes of the game
  • Shanahan just keeps coming up short
  • using a backup tight end to block one of the premier pass rushers this year was the reason purdy got hurt
  • when a defense only has to key on a one dimensional type of offense it makes the game a whole lot easier
  • What lane johnson is doing is remarkable, and the false start shit is stupid
  • 49ers literally on 3rd and 4th string QB
  • you can’t go on to say if purdy stayed in the game 49ers would’ve won or eagles still would’ve won, but what you can say is that played a huge role and that game wouldn’t have gone the way it did
  • eagles averaged 3.4 yards per rush, they weren’t rushing the ball great by any means and jalen hurts had 120 yards passing again 
  • Eagles only 269 yards of offense on 70 offensive plays, and a 3.8 yards-per-play average. They still weren’t able to stop the Eagles from scoring four rushing touchdowns. 
  • Maybe NFL should look at adding a 3rd QB on rosters for playoffs just in case that doesn’t have anything to do with the 53 man roster, NFL can’t have this happen again in the such a big game

  • Travis kelce is a national treasure
  • Mahomes is unbelieavable especially what he’s doing with the injury and what he has around him
  • Chiefs went in without talking bengals on the other hand not so much
  • everyone talks about the play where chiefs got a due over, it never mattered got sacked on the next play
  • a lot of people blaming officiating in this game as well
  • its just impressive what mahomes
